Combining visual electrophysiology with other testing and genetics in real-world vision care practices

Wendy Harrison OD, PhD FAAO
Associate Professor, University of Houston College of Optometry

Friday, April 17, 2026
8:00 AM PDT, 11:00 AM EDT, 17:00 CEST

Diagnostic practice has evolved in the last several years with the inclusion of easy-to-capture genetic testing reports. This webinar explores real-world clinical cases in which a combination of genetics and visual electrophysiology was used to reach diagnoses for patients. This will include patients of all ages and will discuss special considerations in children and families. It will discuss best practices for incorporating ERG, mfERG, VEP, and EOG, along with other helpful tests (VF, FAF, color). The goal is to help the audience best use this combination of tests to help their patients in their own practices.

Dr. Harrison graduated from Indiana University in 2005 as the first person to complete an OD/MS in 4 years. After completing a cornea and contact lens residency also at Indiana, she went on to complete a PhD at UC Berkeley. She graduated in 2011 and joined the faculty of the Arizona College of Optometry, where she worked for 6 years. Dr. Harrison is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Houston. Her research lab is funded by grants from the National Eye Institute (NEI) and focuses on biomarkers for early detection of diabetes. She runs the electrodiagnostic patient clinic and teaches ocular disease. She is an active member of the American Academy of Optometry, where she is a fellow and served on the board of the Academy’s Foundation for over 10 years. She is also a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Optometric Association (AOA).
